TORONTO — The 20th edition of the Canadian Hotel Investment Conference will be held at two locations, with the opening night reception set for May 16, 2016, at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York, and the conference slated for May 17 at Metro Toronto Convention Centre, South Building.
Conference plenary sessions include Vast Country, Small Market. Canada’s hotel performance is as diverse as its geography. Toronto and Vancouver are on fire, while Alberta and Saskatchewan are lagging. How can a market like Calgary be on the decline while Banff, only 90 minutes way, booms? Canada is not a ‘one trick oil pony’ and these owners are well established, experienced and nimble enough to maneuver these bumpy times. Learn operating strategies along with how difference real estate strategies are deployed by distinct capital sources.
Following that is a second morning plenary session, What’s the Big Deal? Moderated by Jason Arbuck, of Cassels Brocck LLP, the session will discuss how large capital sources approach, underwrite and finance some of the most interesting hotel transaction deals taking place.
Afternoon sessions include Lessons Learned from Market Shocks: What to Do When Everyone is Ducking and Covering; Brands, Brands, Everywhere a Brand; Creation of Unique Spaces — The Evolution of Boutique Hotels; and Full of Hot Air — The Real Impact of Airbnb on the Canadian Lodging Industry.
The final plenary session will feature the top three teams, in the #hotelNEXT presentation, culled from more than 10 submissions received from across the country, who will each have 15 minutes to present their ideas, on the hotel of the future, to a panel of Canadian investors and hotel owners in front of a live audience.
