ORILLIA, Ont. — Resorts of Ontario will hold its annual conference and trade show titled From Ordinary to Extraordinary — Tools for the 21st Century, at Casino Rama and Fern Resort from March 31 to April 2.
The events start on Sunday with a breakfast at Fern Resort, with greetings from Ontario Premier Doug Ford, and sessions on Bill 47 and the major changes on Making Ontario Open for Business; and a look at the provisions of both Bill 47 and Bill 148 including compliance requirements.
Ryan Mallough of the CFIB (Canadian Federation of Independent Business) will look at Cannabis, and the responsibilities that go along with Bills C-45 and C-46, including comprehensive policies to help maintain a safe and healthy workplace and protect your business operations.
Labour shortages are also on the agenda with a panel titled, “Future Proof Your Business: Strategies and Solutions to Cope with Labour Shortages,” moderated by Brody Purser, director of human resources at Deerhurst Resort.
On Monday, the conference moves to Casino Rama with sessions that include a Peer to Peer panel directed to operational excellence; and FOBBA (Federation of Ontario Bed & Breakfast Accommodations) member breakout sessions that deal with Competing with Airbnb-style Accommodations, Online Reservations and Benefits of Membership.
Other sessions that day will deal with The Value of Traditional Marketing — Guerrilla Style; The Future of Inspections; and a session titled “Runway Line Up” that has preferred suppliers talking about saving money, finding solutions and being innovative, presented by Jason R. Traviss, ROO supplier ambassador.
The trade show will take place from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m., featuring a range of supplier booths and a marketplace concept that shows what's new and trending. The trade show will include the Culinary Tourism Alliance, with food, wine, beer and cider tastings.
On Monday Night, the conference moves back to Fern Resort, with a President's Evening Oscar Night — a celebratory night to recognize excellence for those in the hospitality industry.
The conference will once again feature Roger Brooks, this time by video link. Brooks has been a favourite presenter at the ROO conference before, and will offer his insights and tools that will help resort operations become more competitive and unique with a view to enhancing business.
After lunch and closing remarks, there will be an optional session on Building a Culture of Service Excellence, presented by Sherry Sibio, vice-president, Client Solutions.
