TORONTO–Tim Oldfield, managing director at Choice Hotels Canada announced what he termed a “fantastic opportunity” for a five-year partnership with Humber College's School of Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism, at the chain's Fall Conference at the King Edward Hotel last Thursday.
The partnership will include internships, recruitment opportunities, awards and integration of company case studies into the curriculum.
Dean Susan Somerville noted that Choice is the largest hotel franchiser in Canada, and that one of Humber's strategic initiatives is to bring industry into their classrooms to help them deliver high quality and talented students.
“This will raise the bar for hospitality education in Canada,” she said. This is the first hotel partnership for the School of Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism.
She also said that Oldfield will be joining the Board of Directors for Hospitality Management at Humber.
Oldfield told CLN that Choice had great experiences with interns from Humber, mainly in the marketing department.
