FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — Best Western Plus Sawridge Suites, in Fort McMurray, has received the Best Western Chairman’s Award, the hotel chain’s highest honour for outstanding quality standards, it was announced March 29.

The Chairman’s Award recognizes Best Western International hotels with a cleanliness and maintenance inspection score of top five per cent of more than 2,100 North American properties. To qualify for the award, hotels must also meet Best Western’s requirements for design and high customer service scores.

After a trying year following the wildfires last May, general manager Paul Jones could not be more proud of his team, according to a company release.

This award-winning Sawridge Suites property, in TaigaNova Eco-Industrial Park, is not to be confused with the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre, in Fort McMurray, which closed in September, 2016, due to a drop in business brought about by the economic downturn.

The Best Western Plus Sawridge Suites opened in July 2015. The only four-star property north of Edmonton, the hotel received a Green Leader Award from Trip Advisor, 3 Diamond rating from CAA, the 2017 Employer of Choice Award and the 2017 Housekeeping Award from Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association. In addition, Best Western has been awarded the Champion Award in RevPAR, which proves excellence as measured by the Smith Travel Reports against the competitive set.
