The Manitoba Hotel Association's 86th Annual Convention took place on October 6th & 7th at the Victoria Inn Hotel in Winnipeg. Delegates took part in educational seminars regarding improved customer experiences, temporary foreign workers, social media and hospitality technical trends, tourism, crime prevention, and a session on taking back guests from online travel agents.
The Convention was highlighted by keynote speaker Theresa Syer, who spoke on the importance of creating renowned guest experiences. Theresa’s message was powerful and thought provoking, while her style was engaging, entertaining and humorous at times.
“The MHA would like to thank all of their members that attended this year's Convention,” said Jim Baker, president and CEO. “Turnout for sessions exceeded expectations and brought forward insightful discussions vital to our industry.
“A special thank you to Convention sponsors Western Financial Group Insurance Solutions, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, Labatt Breweries of Canada, Shaw Business, Travel Manitoba, Freeman Audio Visual, and the Government of Manitoba: Tourism, Culture, Heritage, Sport and Consumer Protection,” he added.
Inaugural MHA Awards Dinner March 7
This was the first year that the Gala Awards were not held during Convention. The MHA will focus on the awards as a separate event in order to attract many hoteliers that typically attend Convention, as well as new properties to celebrate the accomplishments of Loyalty Award, Life Membership, and Quarter Century Award winners. The inaugural MHA Awards Dinner will take place on March 7th, 2015 at the Hilton Winnipeg Airport Suites.
This year’s Monday night dinner took on a country western theme and was an overwhelming success. The night featured panning for gold, bull riding, an amazing steak dinner, and games of chance. Attendees dressed up in their best western outfits and enjoyed a less formal event this year.
