EDMONTON — Check In Canada is an industry solution to drive direct accommodation bookings in Canada – and now it’s getting bigger. The Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) has licensed the rights to the Check In Canada program to the Canadian Hotel & Lodging Association (CHLA).
In addition, the CHLA has entered into an exclusive agreement with CanadaDirect Reservations Inc. to manage the administration and operations of Check In Canada and to grow the brand across the country.
“This change will greatly expand the reach of Check In Canada. Dynamic national leadership and cutting edge technology solutions will create exciting new possibilities for destinations and marketing organizations across the country,” said AHLA president & CEO Dave Kaiser. “We had an opportunity to take Check In Canada further in a different way.
“The CHLA is much broader than the AHLA,” Kaiser explained, noting that it is a not-for-profit owned by British Columbia Hotel Association (BCHA), AHLA, Saskatchewan Hotel & Hospitality Association (SHHA), Manitoba Hotel Association (MHA) and Ontario Restaurant, Hotel and Motel Association (ORHMA). CHLA delivers activities, programs, and services that support hotels, motels, resorts, lodges, inns, bed & breakfasts, campgrounds and other temporary stay accommodations in Canada.
“The Hotel Association of Canada is still a marketing partner, helping us to grow Check In Canada,” Kaiser added.
Kaiser spoke highly of CanadaDirect Reservations. “The company vision aligned with what we were trying to do. Canada Direct will provide management of the brand and the customer relations piece.”
“Check In Canada is an industry-led initiative that is cost effective for both hotels and DMOs, but we can only achieve that on a larger scale.”
Dr. Dragan Matovic, chairman of CanadaDirect Reservations, and Robin Garrett,
president of CanadaDirect affiliate Meridian Reservations Systems originally approached Kaiser and the CHLA.
“Having a company based in Ontario to manage Check In Canada in Ontario is a huge advantage. We had an opportunity to work with Dragan, who has many years in the industry,” Kaiser said.
Jordan McKay, who worked on Check In Canada at AHLA for more than three years, will act as CanadaDirect's business development and customer service manager, with an office in Hamilton, Ont. (McKay also works with HAC as a Green Key field sales specialist.)
“We are excited about our new relationship with the CHLA and anticipate a seamless transition of services for all existing customers of Check In Canada,” stated Dr. Matovic.
Dr. Matovic is a recognized leader in Canada's tourism sector, with extensive experience as a developer and operator of numerous hospitality ventures in Canada and the United States. He is currently the longest serving member on the Board of Directors of Destination Canada.
“Meridian Reservation Systems' affiliate company CanadaDirect Reservations is excited about our new agreement with the Canadian Hotel & Lodging Association (CHLA) to manage the administration and operations of Check In Canada. We look forward to growing Check In Canada across the country,” said Meridian president Robin Garrett.
