TORONTO — Omni Hotels & Resorts announced on Nov. 24 that it has fully acquired The Omni King Edward Hotel, the historic Toronto property that opened more than a century ago.

In August 2013, Omni took part ownership of the property and began managing and operating the hotel. With this transaction, the company will take on full ownership, operations and management of the hotel.

In July, The Omni King Edward Hotel completed a $40 million renovation that modernized all 301 guestrooms, installed a new fitness centre and updated the lobby, restaurants, ballrooms and 22,000 square feet of meeting spaces.

Built in 1903 as Toronto’s first luxury hotel, the King Eddy has, during its storied history, played host to such luminaries as Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Louis Armstrong, Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and The Beatles.
