Connie De Sousa and John Jackson are co-chefs at CHIX Eggshop, one of two new restaurants that will be opening at Alt Calgary East Village.

Connie De Sousa and John Jackson are co-chefs at CHIX Eggshop, one of two new restaurants that will be opening at Alt Calgary East Village.

Designed by Canadian firm
LEMAYMICHAUD Architecture & Design, the Alt Hotel Calgary East Village
features an ultramodern design inspired by the neighbourhood's industrial past.
The exterior design is reminiscent of factories from another era, including the
neighbouring building: the former Simmons mattress factory.

In addition to the
opening, the company is pleased to announce that two restaurants will be
joining the Alt Hotel Calgary East Village. First, CHIX Eggshop will be
led by long time Le Germain Hotel Calgary collaborators Connie DeSousa and John
Jackson, co-chefs and owners of CHARCUT Roast House and charbar at
the Simmons. CHIX Eggshop concept is a fast-fine diner which is a
quirky, nostalgic, counter service–only breakfast and lunch spot, with
skillfully crafted and quickly served dishes alongside super-hip craft beverages
and cocktails that are sure to shake things up. CHIX Eggshop is
scheduled to open later this spring.

“We’re excited to partner
with Group Germain Hotels again because the Alt Hotel brand is so
unconventional with unmatched features and services, and CHIX Eggshop is
a reflection of that,” says DeSousa. “The fast-fine diner will be a great spot
for locals and visitors of Calgary to come together and share in the vision
that will be unfolding in the months to come.”

“The new restaurant will
be a highly anticipated hotspot that will fit right into the liveliness and
quickly growing landscape in the East Village and ALT Hotel,” says Jackson. “We
love that we’re bringing this new concept to the community as well, to help
evolve and enhance an area of the city that we are truly invested in.”

The second restaurant to
open will be Barshoku by renowned chef Darren MacLean. Barshoku
is a sleek upscale concept that will purely celebrate fish and local Canadian
vegetables. Opting to serve no meat, the restaurant will instead utilize fish
and plants in new and exciting ways. MacLean’s philosophy of fin-to-scale
cuisine will reflect in the innovative sushi options and ambitious nigiri
creations featuring Canada’s first dry aging chamber specially designed for

Developer plans mixed use development in Ottawa

OTTAWA — A Montreal
developer is proposing to build a hotel and residential tower on the site of
the former Beer Store on Rideau Street, according to an article in Ottawa Business Journal.

In an
application recently filed with the city, Prince Developments says it wants to
tear down the existing buildings at 207 and 213 Rideau St. and replace them
with a 24-storey highrise that would include 208 hotel rooms and 76 residential

The building
at 207 Rideau St. was occupied by a Beer Store that closed last October, while
the two-storey structure next door at 213 Rideau St. is home to a restaurant,
tattoo parlour and other commercial establishments. The space directly to the
west of the former Beer Store at 201 Rideau St. is currently a surface parking
lot and would become part of the new development’s footprint.

The hotel
would occupy the first 16 floors of the new highrise, with residential units on
the remaining eight. The proposal calls for four levels of underground parking for
121 vehicles, including 115 spaces reserved for hotel guests. A three-storey
podium would house the hotel’s bar and lounge as well as other amenities such
as a pool and gym.

Paragon Gaming sells its interest in Parq Vancouver

LAS VEGAS – Developer and gaming operator Paragon Gaming has announced that it has sold its ownership position in British Columbia’s Parq Vancouver to PBC Group for an undisclosed amount. The transaction ends Paragon Gaming’s affiliation with the resort destination, which debuted to the public in September 2017.

Paragon Gaming, Dundee 360Vox and PBC Group played an instrumental role in the design, development, and pre-opening operations of Parq Vancouver. Beginning in 2006, Paragon Gaming acquired Edgewater Casino, the only licensed casino in the City of Vancouver. Paragon managed Edgewater for more than 10 years before the relocation of gaming operations to Parq Vancouver, at which time Parq assumed all management functions. Paragon also assisted in the management of pre-construction approvals and permits for the project.

“The milestones achieved in British Columbia – at Edgewater, Parq Vancouver and the overall community – are a testament to the incredible work of our team members,” said Paragon Gaming co-founder and Chairman of the Board Diana Bennett. “We are proud of our affiliation with Parq Vancouver and we wish their employees the best moving forward.”

Parq Vancouver is a destination resort adjacent to BC Place in the city’s downtown entertainment district, and features a casino, two Marriott hotels, and multiple dining venues.

“PBC believes that Parq Vancouver is positioned to become a central feature of the downtown entertainment district and will serve as further proof that Vancouver has become a global destination city” says PBC’s President, Paul Bouzanis.

Paragon Gaming partnered with PBC Group and Dundee Corporation in the development of Parq Vancouver. PBC Group and Dundee Corporation will continue its ownership of the resort with the existing management team providing day to day oversight.
