Radisson Admiral unveils multimillion-dollar reno

TORONTO—About 100 guests braved Queen's Quay construction on Nov. 7 to admire the Radisson Admiral Hotel and Conference Centre's new look at a reception held in the hotel lobby. The new design played on the almost-circular shape of the lobby, with a circular front desk and curved furniture, along with modern, abstract, geometric chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.

Dry-ice martinis, alcoholic and non, an ice bar, and hors d'oeuvres served on skewers, spoons and platters were all features of the celebration attended by local dignitaries and association executives, hoteliers and staff.

The city has grown up around the Radisson Admiral, general manager Dermot McKeown told CLN. Even in 2003, when McKeown took over as GM, there was no Porter Airlines in the area. And while the construction along Queen's Quay has hampered conference business, McKeown said the hotel is generally having a good year.

Neda Mojgani, the hotel's recently appointed director of sales and marketing, calls it “Toronto's new boutique central waterfront hotel,” which continues to recreate and transform itself. “The process was not an easy one, requiring careful planning, effective communication and strong leadership,” she said.

McKeown told the group that the hotel is in the middle of a multimillion-dollar renovation. The lobby, ballroom, restaurant and guestrooms have all been renovated, while work on the the other half of the guestrooms starts this week.

He added that work on the hotel will probably be complete before construction on Queen's Quay, “the most expensive street in the city,” is finished, but once everything is in place there will be a “fantastic, panoramic patio in front of the hotel.”

Attendees also toured the hotel guestrooms, which are large at 400 square feet, and ended up at a reception showcasing the new Watermark Restaurant and Lounge.
