TORONTO — Hyatt is on a growth trajectory with recent openings of the Hyatt Place Kelowna and Hyatt House Winnipeg. The Hyatt Place Prince George, the first modular-built Hyatt Place, has opened as well. The Hyatt House Moncton will be opening later this week.
“It’s been a busy summer for us, and we’re destined to be busy going forward,” Scott Richer, vice-president of development for Hyatt in Canada, told CLN. “We’ve been pretty active over the last few years, and have a pretty healthy opening schedule over the next few years.”
Hyatt will have opened five hotels this year, including the Hyatt Place Toronto/Mississauga Centre.
Hyatt Place Kelowna opened in July, 2020. The operator of the property is West Fraser Developments and its general manager is Kyle Bingham. This hotel has 161 guest rooms over six floors. The hotel features large guestrooms, pool, whirlpool, fitness centre, conference rooms (180 square metres), covered parking, outdoor patio and an excellent location, said Richer.
Hyatt House Winnipeg also opened in July, and was the first Hyatt House to open in Canada, noted Richer. The owner/operator of this hotel is Kothari Group, and the general manager is Trent Ward. There are six storeys and 135 guestrooms. Located in the heart of Winnipeg’s Seasons of Tuxedo area, the hotel is within walking distance to the Outlet Collection Winnipeg and various restaurants, and a short drive from the city’s business district. The hotel features a salt water pool, fitness centre, large conference room (280 square metres) and two boardroom-type meeting rooms — all beautifully appointed.
Hyatt Place Prince George, which opened in August, is the first modular-build Hyatt Place hotel to open globally. This hotel is operated by Mundi Hotel Enterprises, Inc., and the general manager is Muhammad Mian. It has 105 guestrooms on five floors. The hotel features upscale design aesthetic, along with a pool and fitness centre, and is located in the heart of the city, said Richer.
“The opening of these hotels is an important step in expanding Hyatt’s brand presence throughout Canada, and we believe the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands are on a terrific trajectory,” said Richer. “Their growth illustrates the success of the select service model as the brands continue to create value for our guests and owners. Hyatt Place Moncton is actually slated to open this week, making it the 12th Hyatt-branded hotel open in Canada, and we currently have 22 Hyatt-branded hotels in the pipeline.”
