HALIFAX, NS— Manga Hotels has earned the DoubleTree by Hilton Developer of the Year award for The Hollis, an all-suite hotel in the heart of Halifax, it was announced in late October. An extensive $8 million renovation transformed an 18-year-old downtown Halifax hotel space into The Hollis Halifax – a DoubleTree Suites by Hilton, an upscale, nine-storey, boutique-like property. The hotel is a first full-service for the Hilton brand in Nova Scotia. Formerly a Radisson property, The Hollis Halifax – a DoubleTree Suites by Hilton is owned and managed by Manga Hotels.
The renovation had its share of difficulties. “We shut down the entire hotel and that helped us expedite the construction and renovation process,” Sukhdev Toor, president and CEO of Manga Hotels, said in a release. “The site was very tight and difficult and required exact maneuvering. Due to the intensity and extent of the renovations the project went over budget, but in the end the extra costs were worth it as the project turned out very successfully.” In October, the team received the award from Hilton.
The Hollis features 120 oversized suites, with many offering views of Halifax Harbour, just one block from the waterfront. Each room features a separate seating area, 42-inch HDTV, a spacious desk, a wet bar, and bathroom with rain shower and high-end toiletries. On-site dining options include the award-winning Ryan Duffy’s Steak & Seafood Restaurant, while on the beverage side, the lobby’s lounge offers cocktails, appetizers and local and international wines.
