Best Western Awards Convention 2017 — Canadian winners
Best Western
has an awards category devoted to Heroic Hospitality. The Best Western Sawridge
in Fort McMurray was one of the winners this year.
And in his opening address,
chairman Terry Bichsel talked about Satwant Salaria, and her son Ush, and
husband Raj of Best Western Williams Lake, in B.C., for their bravery and
compassion helping firefighters in the community during the wildfires; housing
and feeding them in her closed hotel. “She put it all on the line to help
and support others. They have all made a difference in their communities,”
he said.
The M.K. Guertin Award honors Best Western
hotels that demonstrate exemplary performance in key service areas that are
important to the company’s customers and to the Best Western brand. The five Canadian winners include:
Best Western Drayton
Valley All Suites, Drayton Valley, Alta.
Best Western Plus
Sawridge Suites, Fort McMurray, Alta.
Best Western Sicamous
Inn, Sicamous, B.C.
Best Western Plus Liverpool
Hotel & Conference Centre, Liverpool, N.S.
Best Western Plus
Walkerton Hotel & Conference Centre, Walkerton, Ont.
Best Western Plus
Sawridge Suites also won the Champion
Design Award and Heroic Hospitality
Award.
Best Western Plus City Centre Inn – Edmonton, Alberta was also honoured as a Best Western for a Better World Legacy Donor — $25,000 Contribution.
Alto Award Winners: Robin Cumine, APX and Fantasyland Hotel
Every year one member of Alberta’s tourism community is recognized for their exceptional contribution to the industry. On Oct. 24, Robin Cumine, vice-president of operations – APX Hotels Group, received the Travel Alberta Alto Ambassador Award, which was presented by the Honourable Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism.
Fantasyland Hotel, West Edmonton Mall, won the Alto Award for Best Marketing Award under $10,000. They won the award for their Fantasyland Hotel Flash Sale, beating out finalists: Sippin' Alberta Craft Beverage Trail, Alberta Culinary Tourism Alliance, Calgary; Things To Do In Okotoks!, Town of Okotoks, Okotoks.
