IDEAS THAT WORK update March 26, 2019

4>How many plugs and USBs does your hotel have?

Today's travellers have multiple devices, all of which need to be plugged in or charged. Hoteliers find it hard to keep up with the number of USB and power outlets required!

At the recently opened Courtyard by Marriott Burlington/Oakville, they have 18 power outlets and seven USBs in two queen guest rooms, and more in the suites.

Is there any other hotel that can beat those numbers?

Plugged in…

Using leftover material to make bags

Eden Textile has a great way of using up material ends-of-rolls — they make recyclable bags from the leftover material, and give them out as promos at trade shows. Stylish!

Cute placemats with architectural flare

At the JW Marriott Los Angeles LA Live, the placemats look like architectural drawings showing where the plates, knives, forks, etc. should go.  Cute…

Instagrammable teacup chandelier

The JW Marriott Los Angeles LA Live also has a teacup chandelier in the Nespresso coffee shop — definitely Instagram material!

Deliver an eco-friendly message — Straws suck!

The House of Blues in Anaheim, Calif., is quite blunt about its message, which appears on tables in the Restaurant and Bar. Eco-correct!

An easy way to measure drinks

See that “B” on the glasses at the Courtyard by Marriott Burlington/ Oakville lobby restaurant? It stands for “The Bistro,” which is the name of the restaurant.

But there's a hidden tool for bartenders on those glasses — the bottom of the letter B shows where to pour for a six-ounce drink, while the top of the B indicates the proper level for a nine-ounce pour.

Ingenious!
